ABOUT

WHO WILL YOU RELAY FOR?

Relay For Life Zambia is a signature fundraiser of the Zambian Cancer Society. Formally established in 2009, the Zambian Cancer Society is dedicated to raising awareness and supporting cancer patients irrespective of age, gender or type of cancer.

WHAT IS RELAY FOR LIFE aka Relay?

Relay For Life is a non-competitive walking event. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to CELEBRATE cancer patients and survivors, to REMEMBER those we have lost to cancer and to FIGHT BACK against a disease that has already taken too much! This year’s theme is MORE Birthdays, less cancer!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT RELAY?

At Relay, you’ll see participants of all ages taking turns walking around a designated track. Participants are encouraged to form teams comprising at least 2 people. Each team commits to having at least one member on the track at all times, as a way to symbolise how we’re all affected by cancer. 

There will be onstage and off-stage entertainment throughout the event. There will be live music, drama performances, aerobics, games, food and beverages on sale and much more!  Various health checks will also be available.

CELEBRATE – Relay will start with the survivors lap of victory. It is an inspiring part of Relay celebrating the lives of people who have battled cancer and their victories that have been achieved over the disease.  If you know of any survivors, please invite them to sign up and participate in the survivors lap. This will be followed by a special lap in honour of all caregivers.

REMEMBER – The Remembrance ceremony is dedicated to those who lost their battle to cancer, in honour of those who have overcome the disease and those who are still fighting cancer. Personally decorated Candle-Lighting Bags will be lined around the track, in remembrance of or as a dedication to a loved one affected by cancer. Candles placed into each bag are lit at nightfall at the beginning of this very inspirational and emotional ceremony. These candles will burn throughout the night, reminding us that TOGETHER we are stronger than cancer!

FIGHT BACK

We will walk to raise awareness and funds towards the construction of an outdoor seating area for patients and caregivers at the Cancer Diseases Hospital new wing. Teams are encouraged to fundraise in the lead up to the event in support of this project. When you Relay, you show the people with cancer in our communities that they’re not alone. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, our communities are teaming up to make a difference. By rallying together in the fight against cancer through this fun and inspirational event, we can accomplish anything!

Terms and Conditions?

I acknowledge that during Relay For Life both my person and my property shall be at my own risk.

I understand that the Zambian Cancer Society has obtained no personal accident insurance or any other insurance covering my participation in Relay For Life and it is my responsibility to obtain any and all insurance which is appropriate for that purpose.

I fully and irrevocably exclude and release Zambian Cancer Society and all Relay For Life sponsors, as well as their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and representatives, from all liability for any loss, damage, cost or expense (whether in negligence, contract, under statute or otherwise) suffered by me as a consequence of my involvement in Relay For Life, including in relation to death and personal injury.

I further agree that if any claim, including in relation to personal injury, property damage or wrongful death arising from my participation in Relay For Life is commenced, I will indemnify and hold harmless Zambian Cancer Society and all Relay For Life sponsors, as well as their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and representatives, from any and all loss, damage, cost or expense in connection with such claim.

Relay For Life is a public event held on premises or property made available for community events. As such, the agreement to participate means that I also agree to be bound by the rules and regulations that may apply to the premises or property where the Relay For Life is to be held. I also agree to follow the directions of anyone authorised to give directions whilst I am on the said premises or property.

I agree in participating in Relay For Life that I will show respect for other participants in the event. I agree that my conduct will at all times be considerate of others. I agree to abide by the venue rules concerning activities, coarse language, privacy, and noise. I acknowledge and agree that Relay For Life is a non-smoking event.

I also agree that I will abide by the decision of the local organisers of Relay For Life about whether alcohol is permitted to be consumed at the venue. I also agree that if alcohol is permitted, that I will not cause, permit or allow any such alcohol to be supplied to any minor. I acknowledge that Relay For Life is an animal free event, except for animals that are companions for people with visual impairments.

I acknowledge that in the course of Relay For Life, photographs, images or film may be taken of me either alone or in group shots with others. I agree to the use of my image in these photographs, images or film and for their use on the websites or in Zambian Cancer Society publications in the future. I agree to the use of my name in conjunction with any photographs of me I also agree that the photographs or film may be used by third party media organisations in connection with the reporting of Relay For Life.
