For our June play reading, we're exploring An Ordinary Life by Kitty Smith!
A look at what lies behind the silk sari, the warm Indian welcome and its colourful traditions.
In London, families of Indian origin have a sub-culture that is both admired and derided – but remains mysterious to many. It’s an immigrant community that is often lauded for its family values, educational excellence, and professional achievement.
Explore the unusual world of Kamseela and her husband Kavi, their marriage, and their eccentric relationships.
The play examines devoted love – contrasted by ambition and social acceptance in a western society. Experience their peculiarities, the games they play and the hilarious characters who pop by their home in Wembley, London.
About the writer, Kitty Smith
Kitty Smith was born in Cape Town in 1966 and grew up in Rylands, Athlone. Her father was of South Indian lineage. Her mother is of South Indian, British, and African lineage. Kitty’s degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology provided a foundation for a varied career
in South Africa and the UK. She married and lived in London for many years. Kitty has always been a quiet observer of life and has written privately - for self and family. She enjoys solitude, yet is fascinated by people, nature, culture - and the stories that capture our humanity, our folly, and our loves.
The evening will include a table read of the play by actors, followed by a discussion of the work. The discussion will be led by Melanie O'Connor Horn and a panel of experts. Input from the audience is most welcome!

* You are welcome to take your food and drink into the theatre, but please be sure to return your glass to the bar afterwards.
* Strict admittance policy - no entry after the show start time. Latecomers will be admitted entry at intermission.
* Children are not permitted to sit on laps.
