ABOUT

Family preservation and reunification services are designed to support families in crisis in which children are either at imminent risk of placement or have been placed outside of their homes. Thinking about the South African context, how do we keep children within their families when systems are failing not only the children but caregivers too. How do we keep families together and protect children for their future and stop generational trauma?

In this workshop, we will explore:

  • Understanding the Context: Explore the unique challenges and dynamics present in at-risk, high-violence communities, and how they impact family dynamics and well-being.

  • Empowerment Strategies: Equip participants with practical tools and strategies to strengthen familial bonds, enhance communication, and resolve conflicts constructively, fostering a sense of empowerment within the family unit.

  • Accessing Resources: Identify and provide information on community resources, support networks, and services available to families in difficult circumstances, enabling them to access the assistance they need to thrive.

  • Building Resilience: Focus on resilience-building techniques to help families navigate adversity, manage stress, and cultivate a positive outlook, ultimately promoting the preservation and fortification of family units in challenging environments.

The workshop will be interactive with an opportunity to practice some of the skills learnt while doing case studies and discussions.

This event is aimed for any professionals working with vulnerable children or families.

Certificates of attendance will be available.
