Join INSTOPP and seasoned therapist Marlize Watermeyer in this two-part mentorship series where she will delve deep into the intricate aspects of assessing the psychiatric claimant for insurance purposes.

 

The sessions will focus on understanding functional impairment in the psychiatric claimant, how to assess appropriately and according to referral constructs as well as how to effectively (and relevantly) quantify functional impact, formulate realistic recommendations and how to effectively and productively case manage the claimant

Occupational Therapists with an interest in psychiatry, case management and insurance domains. Occupational Therapists working in multidisciplinary teams and treating insurance claimants. Ots in sub-acute settings where in-claim patients are often admitted.


About the presenter:

Mrs Marlize Watermeyer qualified as an Occupational Therapists in 1999 at the University of the Orange Freestate. She went on to complete her Masters degree in Medical Sociology at the University of the North West and her subsequent paper was presented at the ISA World Sociology Conference in Tokyo in 2014 with the topic: The Doctor-Patient relationship – Inequality in Pain Construct. Her career highlights include selection as part of a 28-member team to privatise the first public hospital in Tripoli, Libya during 2008 to 2011 which allowed her a firm grasp on the impact of multidisciplinary intervention towards health restoration. Mrs Watermeyer is the Managing Director of Watermeyer and van der Merwe Incorporated and devotes her skills to work strengthening of the physical and psychiatric client, Medico-legal assessments, Vocational Rehabilitation, and psychiatric group-work. She is co-developer of ThinkWork, a psychiatric workhardening and return to work program designed in collaboration with her partner, Mrs. C. van der Merwe, Prof C. Grobler, Dr R. van Niekerk, Prof B. Linde and Mr J.P. Watermeyer. This was followed by being co-presenter at the World Psychiatric Conference in Cape Town in 2016 with the topic VR in the South African Context. She served on several forums including OTOH (Occupational Therapists in Occupational Health), was Chairperson for the Eastern Cape OTASA branch. She firmly beliefs in the value that work as occupation offers and focusses her efforts on the restoration of this critical life role, through tailor made and patient specific goals.
