Red Disa Guided Hike (Orange Kloof)
Tue Feb 14, 06:45 - Tue Feb 14, 14:45
Constantia Nek Parking Lot
ABOUT
It's that time of year again, RED DISA season!
Join us for our annual pilgrimage onto Table Mountain to see Disa uniflora blooming in habitat.
We'll be hiking beautiful Disa Gorge in the Orange Kloof restricted area, passing Woodhead Tunnel where we may catch the last Red Disa in bloom. Continuing our ascent between forest and fynbos we pass stunning south-facing cliffs where one often sees walls covered in orchids from afar. Later, after topping out at Woodhead Dam, we'll get up close to Disa uniflora blooming along the banks of the Upper Disa Stream. After a well deserved lunch we'll cross the Aqueduct wall and begin our descent back to Constantia Nek via the Window Gorge stream, Vaalkat Weir and the Bridle Path. This is a big day out touching in at various spots to see Disa uniflora, and also look out for Blue Disas and Cluster Disas among many other gorgeous summer blooms like our iconic Giant Protea!
