ABOUT

The Scarborough Mussel Festival is an annual event that will take place on Saturday, March 4th, 2023 from 2 pm, at the Scarborough Community Centre (and in the surrounding communal Biodynamic gardens).Bio- Degradable bowls provided , Bring your own Cutlery !

This festival is being held to promote and raise funds for the Scarborough community networks, the four pillars of our “Conservation Village”: SVA (Scarborough Village Association), Scarborough Keepers, Scarborough Firefighters, and SEG (Scarborough Environmental Group).

There will be 200 tickets available for online booking at a cost of R150 per ticket, which includes a portion of mussels and local bread.

Get your ticket online soon, as ONLY 100 will be sold at the venue on the day!

There will be free live music and DJS and a space to dance at the festival, as well as a well-stocked bar with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for sale.

We are inspired by traditional community events held in small villages in Northern France. The Mussels served ,are not picked on our beaches, although they do grow here, for we have chosen farmed mussels from the West Coast, because their controlled harvest is more sustainable.

Please buy your tickets here or get in touch with SEG on WhatsApp ONLY Mobile: 0630356503.... to find out more about how you can support the community organisations that operate locally if you are unable to attend.

(SEG is currently running awareness campaigns for Scarborough residents and landlords so that we can all participate more and make more use of these self funded and self governing networks.)

Scarborough is an official suburb of Cape Town but the remoteness of the area, its recent but dynamic history, and the generosity and know-how of its residents have enabled our village to run differently to others suburbs in terms of self sustainability and resilience. We are proud to have slowly and independently grown a model that can compare itself to a Transition Town or other urban transformation models in other countries. In addition to the pillars we mention, this connectivity has also provided a platform for many other organisations and individuals to participate and innovate in community building and bridging, for example OVOF (Ocean View Organic farm), Red Hill Library and Food projects, Scarborough and Red Hill CAN Pets… local music, art, and wholesome living events organisers, local goods and services suppliers, as well as wildlife, parenting, women and lift groups, etc…

Come have a delicious and connecting time with us!

Much gratitude from all of us at
