DANGERFIELDS

Over the past year Cape Town post-punk band Dangerfields released a series of singles and music videos while performing across SA. They also developed a friendship with members of Orah & The Kites and Finch Quartet, which resulted in a unique musical collaboration, pushing Dangerfields’ music into places it hadn’t been before. The band very much looks forward to presenting this collaboration on the Daisy Jones stage.

LUCY KRUGER & THE LOST BOYS

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys is an art-pop ambient noise band based in Berlin.

The group creates music that is full of atmosphere and intensity.

In April this year the band released, ‘Teen Tapes (for performing your stunts)’ - a follow-up to their previous record ‘Transit Tapes (for women who move furniture around)’ - and the final in their series of tapes. The trilogy, which began with the contemplative collection of lullabies, ‘Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls’, documents a growing desire to play. There is a relinquishing of control in the sonic landscape and in the story that happens throughout the course of the three records.

The band has been touring the albums throughout Germany and Europe over the last year, performing at the likes of Fusion Festival, Maifeld Derby, Wave-Gotik Treffen, South of Silence, Immergut, and Synästhesie.

The range of material and storytelling captured in the trilogy has given the group a chance to explore a live set that drifts between introverted and ecstatic.

WOMBED /wu:m:ed/

Wombed is an experimental music project led by Berlin-based, Cape Town-born musician, André Leo (formerly of dream noise duo, Medicine Boy).

Birthed in the murky waters of 2020, the debut EP, Still Nothing, is described by Leo as ‘cough syrup blues’ and is a merger of his love for acoustic roots music and washed-out, unsettling ambiance.

2021’s Skinning Music is a blurry sound collage of dictaphones, Mellotrons, tube amps, guitars and tape hiss.

These two self-produced EPs mark the closing of the first cycle of Wombed with a forthcoming record in the final stages of production, drawing more on Leo’s adoring and inquisitive relationship with discordant, noisy rock ‘n roll music

For their debut performances in South Africa, the band (with Francis Broek on drums and Adam Hill on bass) will focus on the newer, unreleased material while throwing in a few reworkings of older material.

ORAH & THE KITES

Orah & The Kites are a melancholic alternative folk band based in Cape Town, South Africa. The band formed in 2016 by Ntokozo Mzimela (Keys/Vocals/Guitar) with best friends Teagyn Gracey (Vocals/Saxophone) and Jaimie De Klerk (Synth/Vocals).

The trio soon expanded to include Tristan De Beer (Lead Guitar/Vocals) and Kieron Brown (Bass/Vocals) in 2018 and they now welcome Giovanni Serci on drums.

The Orah & The Kites soundscape is forever evolving but is rooted in an appreciation for vocal harmony and the meditative cathartics of melody repetition.

Orah & The Kites have played at local venues such as The Raptor Room, The Gin Bar, Cafe Roux and more. The band has also graced the stages of local festivals such as Muizenbergs Concert in the Park in 2017, Garden State Festival alongside Kyp Malone, Dave Depper and Laura Burhenn, Design Ndaba, Endless Daze 2019 and Up The Creek 2020.

FINCH QUARTET

Finch Quartet is a modern classical string quartet, inspired by collaboration and innovation. They aim to break the stereotypes of classical tradition, and push the limits of sounds and spaces that string quartets are usually associated with. They have most recently collaborated with Dangerfields, Bye Beneco, Orah and the Kites and Haiku Haiku.
