"Once on This Island” is set on a mythical island. During a terrible storm a group of peasants huddle around a fire, to distract a small frightened girl they tell her the story of a little peasant girl, Ti Moune whose life was spared by the Gods on a night just like this. As time goes by Ti Moune grows in to a beautiful young woman. While working in the fields she notices a wealthy young boy, Daniel, drives past her in a fast car. She dreams that he will someday carry her off to a grand new life. Unbeknownst to Ti Moune, the pompous gods who preside over the island make a bet with one another over which is stronger, love or death, the stakes being Ti Moune's life.
