Let’s join hands for Hanlie

(In memory of Graham)

We can walk further if we take hands …

After the death of her husband in 2011, Hanlie’s son, Graham Rudman, cared for his elderly mother. Because she needed permanent care, she moved to a retirement home in Hartbeesfontein. She suffers from epilepsy and also has other medical conditions.

Graham visited his mother almost every day, helped where he could or talked to her over the phone. Her daughter, Tina, stays farther away but visits her mother at least once a month.

In 2016, Graham was diagnosed with brain cancer, and by the Lord’s grace, the tumour shrank markedly. Every year he went for tests, but this year (2022) the results were very bad. There were two malignant tumours in his brain and the doctors could do nothing more for him. Graham’s condition deteriorated rapidly. We kept the faith; however, the Lord took him away unexpectedly, eight days before his 42nd birthday. He leaves behind his wife and two young children. Also his mother, Hanlie, who is dependent on him for financial support.

This is why we as a family have decided to host one big fundraiser, so Hanlie does not have to worry about financial expenses every month. At present, there are family members who are able to make a small monthly contribution, but it is not enough to cover the costs of the home and not everyone’s circumstances are stable or always ideal in our current economy.

Our goal is to ask 90 people to each contribute a once-off amount of R200 (or more) so that we can make sure that Graham’s mother is well cared for and that her basic needs for the coming year are covered.

Thank you very much for your contribution – if we put all the tiny bits of goodness together, it makes an enormous difference!
