ABOUT
The Empathy Project is a space and platform for like and unlike minded people to gather and connect in person, to unpack social commentary in a safe and intimate space. We ask questions, exchange experiences and encourage real engagement. The aim is inspire empathy and build understanding by listening to each other's views, ideas & experiences. To address the proverbial elephant in the room, around all social issues facing us in this country, through honest and gracious communication.
Session #4:
Masculinity in itself is not a bad thing, but the ways in which it is expressed and experienced has turned toxic. Both men and women are harmed by the manifestations of masculinity, which stem from ill-informed and dangerous beliefs about what it means to be a man and how men (and women) should engage with other men.
We will be zoning into how masculinity is shaped and framed societally, how men and women alike reinforce toxic beliefs about masculinity in our words, behaviours and activities, and what can be done to dismantle these old-age ideologies about manhood, so as to create safer & healthier conditions of life for us all.
