ABOUT
The Jack Hammer Band is the country’s longest standing rock band, its existence spanning three decades. Jack Hammer have been pounding down the highway since 1984.
Founded by the late & great Piet Botha, they opened for Deep Purple and Uriah Heep during the 1990's on their “Masters of Rock” tour and were also privileged to be the supporting act for ZZ Top on their South African tour.
Their 12th album , titled Handful of Rain , came after many years spent touring, and is an ode to the road, a book of songs, a collection of quiet reflections of a man looking back on his life as a touring musician. Songs of rivers, highways and impossible love: these a re the main motifs of this Jack Hammer album. This was the last album with Piet Botha at the helm.
After Piet's untimely passing the band is continuing with the legacy and are still performing to this day with Johnathan Martin & Jake Gunn sharing vocals & guitar, Paul van de Waal on drums and Tertius du Plessis on bass.
