The friendliest plastic pirate that raids land & sea is launching a musical experience of a kind.


Captain Fanplastic presents Sounds for the Ocean lead by 'captains' Alessandro Gigli & Zolani Mahola, in partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium & Education Foundation. We invite you to join us for the launch of Captain Fanplastic's inspiring audiobook, amazing songs and other surprises. All supported by the V&A Waterfront.


On Saturday, the 18th of September, in honour of International Coastal Cleanup Day, Captain Fanplastic is on a mission to raise environmental literacy through music. This event is for the young and old just like our planet.


What do you get?

Your ticket grants you access to the Two Oceans Aquarium from 2PM on Saturday 18 September 2021 only. Hear amazing talks about the importance of our oceans, enjoy music, hear how the Captain got his name while enjoying a snack and stand to win a prize or two to take home. A welcome drink will be provided by the Floating Dutchman Rum and gourmet canapés will be served during course of the event. A cash bar will be available too. Or you can watch online for free.

But why?

Proceeds from the event will be directed to both programmes: Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation and Captain Fanplastic. In order to raise awareness about the importance of responsible consumption and production & to continue education on marine conservation. Online viewers will be able to donate to programme.

You can also catch the fun early with the Two Oceans Aquarium's #TrashBash Beach Cleanup at Monwabisi Beach with the Captain and you get a chance to win fantastic prizes too!

Who are we?

Captain Fanplastic is an environmental literacy programme that uses graphic storytelling, creativity and gamification to educate primary school kids about the impact of land-based pollution and the value of plastic should it be recycled. Through this Captain Fanplastic wishes to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. (SDG 4, 12, 13 & 14) set by the UN.

Captain Fanplastic is an initiative by Soapbox South Africa- A Social Design Agency dedicated to creating positive impact on society within Education, Health, Financial Inclusion & Sustainability.


Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation places a strong emphasis on marine science literacy, for the benefit of future generations of South African children, and the ocean at large. Efforts in this regard include environmental education outreach programmes, early childhood development lessons, free courses via the Marine Sciences Academy, and thousands of lessons for school learners.
