ABOUT

Who doesn’t love penguins? Nobody, right?! People all over the world fall in love with these iconic, charismatic and often clumsy flightless birds, so it makes sense to do everything we can to protect them. The African penguin is an endangered species and you can help us turn their fate around.

In South Africa, we celebrate Heritage Day annually on 24 September and we invite everyone to show their solidarity by joining us penguin-crazy SANCCOB folk in our quest to save the African penguin from extinction. You can run, walk or waddle a 5km distance on 24 September wherever you are in the world.

Do this in your best black and white or penguin-themed outfit and you might get a surprise gift from SANCCOB.

Simply tag SANCCOB on social media and send your visual entry to [email protected] by midnight GMT+2 on 24 September 2020.

All you need to do is post your photo and tag SANCCOB on Facebook and/or Instagram with hashtag #SanccobPenguinRun to help us make a braying penguin noise together.

More entries means more support so encourage everyone you know to enter for just R50 each. All funds raised go toward SANCCOB’s conservation work.

African penguins are part of our heritage, and part of our identity…they need our support and they need YOU!

You can also start your own fundraising initiative with friends and family by creating a fundraising campaign via Backabuddy at https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/register.

Visit our website at www.sanccob.co.za to browse through our online shop to find SANCCOB and penguin-themed merchandise we'll ship to you anywhere in the world.

The number of African penguins left in the wild has declined by millions in the last century to less than 20,000 breeding pairs. Every bird counts and we’re counting on you!
